Some brides look forward to this outing, and some feel overwhelmed—as one of the most important wedding planning decisions you make, choosing a wedding dress can be overwhelming. To make your wedding dress shopping experience the best it can be, we’re sharing some of our favorite tips to know before coming in.
Bring Guests...But Don’t Go Overboard
We think it’s a great idea for brides to bring some of their most trusted friends and family to the appointment. Having two or three people there to help you narrow down tough decisions and share the joy of seeing you in your dress for the first time is a great idea! On the other hand, bringing too many guests can be overwhelming and distracting. Too many opinions may drown out your own, and it’s important to remember that it’s your wedding dress!
Stay Open-Minded
Almost every bride has a general idea of what silhouettes and dress styles she likes before she comes in. This is great, and helps your consultant have a better idea of what dresses to pull for you that will suit your style. While you should absolutely come in with a few ideas, stay open-minded to other silhouettes or dresses your consultant may suggest—you may come in searching for a fit and flare wedding dress, and find yourself in love with a ball gown, or vice versa!
Give Yourself Time
Make sure you come in with ample time for your dress to come in and for you to get your fittings in so it fits like a dream on your wedding day. If you’re planning on purchasing a gown made-to-order, you’ll need at least 6-8 months before your wedding date for the dress to come in and be fitted. If you’re purchasing off-the-rack, you’ll still need at least 6 weeks to have the dress fitted properly.
Know Your Budget
It’s important to know your budget before you come in. This way, your consultant won’t pull dresses out of your budget for you to try on (nothing worse than falling in love with a dress you can’t have), and you don’t have to stress about it during the appointment!
